7 Good Reasons White People Should be Allowed to Use the N-Word

The other day, I overheard a conversation at work between two older white men, one complaining about how white people cannot use the N-word. He defended the white SAE frat boys, comparing them to the black Kentucky ball player who said the N-word under his breath.

My superior didn’t give any clear reason as to why white people should be allowed to use it—he just kept whining, “It’s just not fair.”

So I thought about his non-argument, and came to these 7 reasons as to why white people should be allowed to use the N-word.

1. Because life has never been kind white folks.

I wonder if police ever pull them over because of all of those damaging white stereotypes.

2. Because they never get credit for anything trendy.

Maybe those ancient Egyptians stole their braids and brown skin from ancient peoples of Euro descent too.

3. Because appropriating their culture is so last century.

#BlackOutDay #MelaninMonday #MelaninOnFleek…. #SunBurnOnFleek…said no one ever.

4. Because they don’t have control over the English language.

Twerk, On fleek. Yaaaas. Bae, Turnt…. Fetch. Gretchen, stop trying to make Fetch happen. It’s not going to happen.

5. Because they want to be able to sing along with all the Black rappers.

No one understands what Iggy is saying, and Macklemore’s been pretty quiet…so what else will they rap along to in the meantime?

6. Because they’ve been using the word for hundreds of years and it isn’t fair that they have to stop now.

And, I guess, since our country has always been about about fairness, we might want to consider this for a few seconds.

7. Because America is becoming more PC and white people are getting the short end of the stick.

I mean damn, ya’ll can’t say the N-Word, can’t wear blackface, and can’t have white-only sections anymore. Your whole world feels uprooted, doesn’t it?

I’m genuinely convinced that I will one day meet a white person who will burst into tears while trying to convince me that they should be able to say the N word…

Do white tears season food well? Maybe I can sprinkle a few on my collard greens—not that they aren’t bomb already.

5 Natural Hair Styles for Busy Black Girls

Shae Hair TrasformationFive years ago, I got tired of being a naturalista. I’d been natural my whole life. Bantu Knots, flexy rods, pin curls, and twists were my nightly and morning regimen. And frankly, I was sick of all the time I spent on it.  

Many natural black girls understand my woes. Unless we’re wearing a protective style, we can rarely post an #IWokeUpLikeThis selfie without first teasing and manipulating our hair. At 18, I didn’t want to deal with it anymore. So I chopped it all off and I rocked a perfectly convenient, beautiful buzzed cut.

People thought I was so bold. Some applauded me for not being “another black girl with a weave” (eye-roll), and praised me for embracing my features. Little did they know, I was just too busy to bother with it.

 As a girl who is currently pursuing three careers at once, I’m busyAF. That extra 30 minutes some of my natural diva friends take in the mornings to fix their hair, I’m cranking out a blog post. That evening time before naturalistas go to bed, when they break out the flexy rods and hair clips, is spent driving home from my late-night classes and falling into my bed to sleep for a few hours before I wake up and head off to my 9 to 5.

5 Reasons Black People are So Bomb in 2015

Black people, have I told you I loved you lately?

Not a day goes by where I am not enamored by Black people’s all-around excellence. Whether I’m walking down the street, in the grocery store, or scrolling down my Twitter feed, my day is saturated with Black beauty, intellect, humor, activism, and creativity.

So let’s take a look at the top 5 reasons Black people are so bomb in 2015:

1. Black Beauty

Did you all see all the stunning photos from #BlackOutDay last month? Black folks seem to have every damn thing #OnFleek.

Black girls are stepping out with the most beautiful hair styles. The natural hair community is thriving, with baddies wearing faux locs, box braids, Senegalese twists, and afros of all shapes and colors. And the girls with weaves are gorgeous too (don’t get it twisted).

And I don’t know if it’s because I live in LA, but the Black men I’ve been crossing paths with are hotties.

Black is beautiful—if you haven’t already noticed.

White folks (Ahem, Iggy, Kylie, etc.) would like to know what Black people are drinking to make us so freaking stunning. They’re probably somewhere listening to “The Blacker the Berry” hoping Kendrick left some breadcrumbs to the path to flawlessness.

2. Black Music

To Pimp a Butterfly AWWSpeaking of Kendrick, our artists are killin it (well, some of them). Hip hop fans are still enjoying the newly released To Pimp a Butterfly and entertaining arguments about whether or not Forest Hills Drive was better. Meanwhile, J. Cole’s new “G.O.M.D.” video was pretty fitting for the times, considering our blactivists and allies are fighting back against white supremacy.

Also, did you hear that the Misseducation of Lauryn Hill will be added to the Library of Congress?

The Library of Congress stated that the album is “a work of honesty in which Hill explores her feelings on topics that included the deep wonder of pregnancy, the pitfalls of modern relationships and the experience of the sacred. The album effortlessly fuses soul, rhythm and blues, rap and reggae. Hill’s vocal range, smooth clear highs and vibrato are stunning.”

Anybody want to disagree?

3. Black Humor + Intellect

I have to give a shout out to Black Twitter. Y’all always have me snapping my fingers, laughing my ass off, shouting hallelujah, and gaining serious insights. Black folks online are very good at telling you about yourself and making it hilarious. Just ask the celebrities that were made fun of in #BlackCelebsBeLike. Black Twitter and Black Tumblr  preach so much truth and demand our nation to “do better.” Hashtags like #BlackLivesMatter #BlackCelebsBeLike, #CNNBeLike, #NotJustSAE, #OverwhelmingBlackness and #NotJustUVA bring about necessary conversations.

Additionally, we have our culture critics and intellectuals holding it down: Marc Lamont Hill, Melissa Harris Perry, Franchesca Ramsey, Jessica R. Williams, just to name a few. The knowledge that comes out of their mouths can and is changing our world.

4. Blactivist Protests
I know you don’t think those #BlackLivesMatter protests are a thing of the past. Nope—activists are still demonstrating, demanding justice, and not taking shit from our nation’s white supremacist mindset. Mainstream media may not be broadcasting it anymore, but we already know from those #CNNBeLike tweets that mainstream news outlets ain’t shit.

It’s been several months after the initial protest in Ferguson and I’m still getting emails and Facebook notifications about upcoming protests and small groups of activist meeting with elected officials. It’s inspiring to see people taking care of business.

5. Black Future
Of course, there is much more Black Excellence to come.

  • Toni Morrison’s new novel God Help the Child
  • Brandy playing the role of Roxie Hart in the Broadway show Chicago
  • Michael B. Jordan playing the Human Torch in Fantastic Four
  • Anything Mo’ne Davis has coming out
  • The tons of black 2015 graduates making moves

Black people—you are bombAF.
